Industrial Work Chairs
Body conforming sitting at commercial workplaces
For back prevention, working worlds for individuals in the commercial environment are ideally equipped with industrial chairs that are adapted to the application area and the number of the users. Industrial work chairs and active chairs for working at standing seat workplaces (standing seats) relieve the spinal column during sitting and standing activities. They offer a secure support without restricting the necessary freedom of movement and support dynamic sitting.
Avoid unbalanced loading, increase freedom of movement
It generally applies that unbalanced loading of the spinal column is to be prevented at the workplace. Therefore, for every workplace experts recommend equipping with appropriately matching sitting furniture. A special feature in the commercial area is that all required objects should be reachable with stretched arms without standing up. Therefore, for example through a slim backrest modern industrial chairs offer the greatest possible freedom of movement in the arm and shoulder area.
Important functions
An automatic adjustment of the backrest pressure optimally adjusts to the individual user requirements. Especially when different individuals use the chair. Bodyweight, torso length and the sitting experience of the user can thereby be taken into account even better. In addition, the seat and backrest cushioning should be breathable, microclimate friendly and be adapted to the respective application areas. High durability polyurethane is used in the workshop and production areas, artificial leather in laboratory or clean room areas and fabric in clean working areas.
Stand seat
Standing chairs relieve the strain on the legs and spine by promoting a dynamic, upright posture. Models with break-loaded castors (castors that lock under load and so ensure a stable, secure position) provide greater flexibility at workstations. Thanks to its castors, the chair can also be moved quickly and easily for use at other nearby workstations. The above mentioned stability is a key point, as the chair needs to be stable and secure, even on slightly uneven floor surfaces. The adjustment mechanisms need to be user-friendly, easily accessible and appropriate for their intended use. An advantage for hygienically sensitive areas of work, e.g. laboratories or assembly areas: foot-operated main adjustment mechanisms, which leave hands free for other tasks.
A comfortable workplace takes more than only the chair into consideration
Principally not only the working chair must fit at the industrial workplace. A workplace is always comprised of several components, such as e.g. light , chair and working table. Each component must in itself fulfil all ergonomic requirements. Only then is there the possibility of developing an optimum overall workplace concept from them. Only such an overall concept can in the final instance be beneficial for the health of the user, reduce sick leave days, increase the productivity and at the same time reduce the costs.
Checklist
What you should look for when selecting work chairs with backrests:
- That all technical safety requirements and accident prevention regulations are fulfilled
- Synchronous adjustment of seat and backrest (without a shirt-pulling effect) with different angles of aperture depending on the activity. The seat may only lift to a minimum extent when leaning back.
- The backrest has a minimum height of 45 cm, is individually adjustable and offers a balanced support without creating pressure points. Spacious support of the upper iliac crest (belt level)
- Backrest pressure is adjustable individually or automatically
- It is possible to slightly bend forward while sitting down
- The pneumatic spring is constantly protected from dirt (to warrant its function)
- Seat suspension (in order not to compress the spine when sitting down)
- Adjustable depth of seat
- Adjustable in height
- Arms and shoulders can move freely while the body is still touching the backrest.
- Minimizing stumbling risks
- Breathable, microclimate-friendly, easily exchangeable seat and rest upholstery as well as robust fabrics that suit the individual work environment. Current DIN standards are fulfilled.
- Controls easily accessible, functional, ergonomic and easy to use
- The product program must offer ESD (ElectroStatic Discharge) compatible products.
These features are useful as well:
- The tilting angle of the whole upper part of the chair is adjustable
- The chair can easily be moved to another location while the upholstery is protected (i.e. by providing handles at the sides of the backrest)
- Functional armrests with adjustable width/height/depth (without requiring tools)
- A climbing support is necessary for raised work places in the industrial field (i.e. by providing foot rims in connection with a high gas spring)
- When using the seat as a counter model (higher seat > 65 cm), the risk that the chair may slide away must be avoided
- Rollers that slow down depending on the weight for work places with changing work locations (additional stability)
Minimum requirements for standing chairs:
- Compliance with all safety requirements and accident prevention regulations
- The physiological curvature of the spine still needs to be supported in a high sitting position
- Three-dimensional movement with a stable base
- Front edge of the seat adapts to the inclination of the thighs, which reduces pressure on the underside of the thighs
- Entire seat adapts to the user's movements and different standing and sitting positions are possible through sufficient height adjustability
- Control mechanisms are easily accessible, ergonomic and simple to use
- The gas lift should have a cover to protect against dirt
- Effective seat depth damping, even in the lowest sitting position
- Easy to clean
Other useful features
- Easy to move
- ESD-safe design (electro static discharge)
